Universal Loving Kindness

The loving kindness exercise is a very powerful tool.  After reciting this for ten minutes, I was brought to a very peaceful place.  When my spiritual journey started several years ago, one of the first things that I learned is loving kindness, although this isn't what I called it, and I now have a name for it!  I found that when I realized that we are all the same and that we are all souls, forgiving comes so much easier, as well as health, happiness, and wholeness.  Because once you really want those things for yourself it is what you want for everyone else because in fact we are all one.

After taking the assessment it was no surprise to me that I was lacking in biological flourishing.  I have struggled with my weight for most of my life and I have a hard time sticking with any kind of exercise regimen for long, and I can never seem to figure out why I fall off, I mean it isn’t brain surgery, its 30 minutes per day.  I once had chalked it up to boredom, but there are so many fun activities out there, I can’t see how that could be the case.  But I refuse to give up.  Maybe this is something that I need to tackle deeper with hypnosis or past life regression.  It isn’t a matter of not knowing what to do as far as eating because I do eat healthy and don’t buy processed foods or eat any kind of fast foods.   Just today I created an exercise regimen with strength training and a walking regimen.  I made this regimen a short term goal of 8 weeks and plan to reassess at the end to see where I am and how much better shape I am in!

  1. First of all, good luck in reaching your fitness goals! Taking the time to set goals and make a plan is a huge step towards long-term success!
Second, I really loved reading the first paragraph you wrote. It really spoke to me for some reason. Perhaps because you obviously have had success with meditation long-term, and that gives me a lot of hope. Anyhow, isn't it a great feeling when something you have known and practiced for a long time turns out to have a specific title, because it is THAT important? :) It sounds like you really have your "stuff" together, and that makes me super happy for you! Thanks for sharing this wonderfully positive post!

  3. Michelle,

It is good to know you began this journey several years ago. For me, getting into this practice was challenging at first. Not in the aspect of extending loving-kindness to others as this seems like a no-brainer. Would I wish for anything but happiness, wholeness and health for another? Certainly not. I cannot imagine wishing any harm to another. We never really understand what one may being going through in their life. I agree whole-heartedly that once we want this for ourselves, then if becomes almost natural to want this for another. Motivation comes for me in the consequences I experience such a feeling of wholeness and love.

Interestingly, I find that I am falling short in the biological quadrant as well. At times, I find it easier to take the simple and quick way rather than challenging road. I have experienced fluctuations in weight nearly all of my life too. It is not that I do not like healthy foods, but preparing them after a long day at work and school is tough. I accepted advice from a friend in that changes do not take place overnight and that I should slowly integrate new habits into my life. This way I am less likely to meet shock, thus resistance. For some people, it is all or none. One thing I have changed completely is getting rid of soft drinks and only drinking water. I have lost 5 pounds and maintained it even without changing what I eat. This practice has been going well for 2 months now and I am on to a new challenge or cutting the amount of white bread, potatoes, rice and pasta that I consume. Today my fiancé and I buy only sugar-free bread. I'll admit this was hard at first, but cannot imagine eating another kind.

I suppose for me, I have to integrate slowly as mentioned. It is the only thing that works long-term for me.

I admire your courage in not giving up. You have a can-do attitude that is refreshing and catching. I wish you all the best in your journey.

  4. So goes the battle girl ;)
I cut out gluten and is has worked wonders. I also eat strictly organic with over 80% of my food coming from local farmers. This is a new eating life style for me in the past two years. It has not been easy financially or otherwise. I didn't know where anything was in the grocery store. All of a sudden I had to cook everything from scratch! Huge learning curve.
    Never give up!
